Tea is a product of the earth, and how we package it should honour that relationship. At Fusion Leaf, every packaging decision begins with two non-negotiable requirements: the tea must arrive in your cup as fresh as the day it left our factory, and the materials must tread as lightly on the planet as possible. This dual commitment has led us to develop five distinct packaging formats, each engineered for a specific use case and each reflecting our second-life design philosophy — the idea that packaging should be useful long after the last leaf has been brewed.
Five Packaging Formats
1. Retail Food-Grade Packaging
Our primary retail format uses recyclable food-grade white cardboard with an inner aluminium lining that provides an effective barrier against moisture and air — the two greatest enemies of tea freshness. The outer surface is fully customisable, allowing us to express the unique identity of each product line while maintaining a consistent Fusion Leaf design language. These cartons are designed to be sturdy enough for shelf display and beautiful enough that customers keep them as storage containers, extending their useful life well beyond the initial purchase.
2. Two-Ply Aluminium Coated Paper Sacks
For bulk and wholesale channels, we use two-ply paper sacks with an aluminium coating on the inner ply. This format balances the breathability needed for large-volume storage with the moisture barrier required for long-distance shipping. These sacks are the workhorses of the global tea trade, and our version meets the highest food-safety standards while remaining recyclable through standard paper recycling streams.
3. Polybags with Nylon Lining
Our 50-kilogram polybags with nylon lining are designed for commercial and institutional buyers. The nylon inner lining provides an exceptional moisture and oxygen barrier, ensuring that even in high-humidity shipping environments, the tea arrives in peak condition. These bags are reusable in agricultural and industrial contexts — many of our farming partners repurpose them for grain storage and other farm applications.
4. Zip-Lock Pouches
Available in 500g, 240g, 100g, and 50g sizes, our zip-lock pouches are the preferred format for orthodox and specialty teas. The resealable closure means the tea stays fresh across multiple brewing sessions, while the flexible format reduces material usage compared to rigid cartons. These pouches are especially popular with our cottage-line products — White Silver Tea, Green Tea, and our flavoured blends — where the ability to see and smell the leaf through a transparent window enhances the buying experience.
5. Tea Bags
Our tea bag format uses individually wrapped 2-gram sachets, packed 25 to a box. The sachets are sealed in a food-grade foil envelope that locks in freshness and aroma, making them ideal for travel, office use, and hospitality settings. The tea bag material itself is unbleached and free from microplastics, and we are actively researching compostable alternatives to the heat-seal layer.
The Second-Life Philosophy
We take inspiration from a principle that Wangari Maathai — Kenya's Nobel laureate and founder of the Green Belt Movement — lived by: that care for the environment is not separate from economic activity but integral to it. Our second-life design philosophy asks a simple question of every piece of packaging we produce: what will this become after the tea is gone? A storage tin. A planting pot. A gift box. A carry bag. When packaging is designed with its afterlife in mind, waste is not eliminated — it is simply never created in the first place.
